Lyrical Essay
For this Lyrical Essay project, we were asked to write an essay on a topic we care about or are interested in. Lyrical essays are different from regular essays because we get to get creative with the texts with visual placements of the texts or words that help the readers to imagine what the scenes would look like or “hear” the essay.
After I finished writing the essay, I decided to create a short animation where the scene is set at a Chinese supermarket since I included Ranch 99 in my essay. I first drew the images in Procreate on my iPad and then combine them with the audio of me reading the essay together in After Effects.
Reflection
Writing an essay was never a fun thing for me, but I had a lot of fun writing this lyrical essay. I got the chance to talk about a topic I care about through an interesting way. I could include a metaphor and sensory techniques, and play around with the placement of the texts. This project allowed me to convey my messages through a special and artistic method.
