Music Recording

Since we have access to a Recording Studio, our role in this project was to act as the recording engineers rather than the musicians. I worked with Maisie Rennie to record a performance by a Valentine’s group from the MVHS Choir. They sang one of the songs they performed for Singing Valentines, and we captured their live performance in the studio.

For this project, we produced a choir recording using the sound booth at Freestyle Academy, using professional audio equipment and software such as ProTools. One of the main challenges we faced was helping the singers stay relaxed, as it’s easy to get nervous and miss the timing during recording. Over time, the choir became more comfortable and familiar with the procedure, making the process less nerve-wracking and easier to stay on tempo.

Throughout the process, we gained valuable experience using ProTools, including techniques like applying reverb and limiting certain sounds to ensure the recording sounded clean.

We are most proud of our collaboration with the MVHS choir students. Working together not only created a memorable experience but also allowed us to practice and grow in a professional setting.

This project was very fun– mostly because of all the new things we learned in the studio. The most difficult part of any assignment is always in the applications, but because of the choir we practiced with prior to this, it wasn’t as difficult as expected. Maisie was an amazing partner that helped me the entire way through and handled some of the post production as well. We both had a great time producing this, thank you Mr. Flo!

Thank you to everyone who helped us out with this project!
