Ten Things I've Learned So Far in my Life

This podcast is the result of a brainstorming activity I did in my English class based on Stefan Sagmeister's Project to help me realize my belief system. I came up with a list of ten lessons I've learned in life and found pictures to accompany them. Then, in Web/Audio class, I created the podcast using Garageband.

My podcast features the audio recording of me saying the ten things that I’ve learned so far. The image that is shown with each statement acts as a visual for each idea presented. It emphasizes the idea being presented by showing visual examples. I played around with sound effects to my voice so that it alternates between a chipmunk voice, a cartoon voice, and my own voice. This Garageband effect makes the recorded list more lively, as my voice alone is monotonous. The music I used is derived off of a piano accompaniment, re-purposed with a more techno feel. It provides a simple background rhythm for the voices that makes the podcast more interesting without being distracting. A short piano solo was added near the end so that the podcast concluded with music rather than voice.

Overall, making a podcast leaves much room for creativity. Garageband allowed me to do many unique things with the audio. Most of the time, I wouldn’t know what worked best in my podcast until I had at least tried a couple different options. A lot of the effects were fun to play with at first, but it proved challenging to arrange everything so that the sound worked in harmony. There are simply too many possibilities.
