About
The explorations unit was basically a more laid back unit. In this unit, we basically just focused on being creative. Our focus for English was to create a creative poem while in our elective class, we basically had free range on what we chose. We got to explore new topics and dive deeper into topics that we already knew about. We got to use the skills we learned not only through ought the school year but also skills that we learned on our own.
For my exploration project, I decided to go with something a bit…
different
Interrupted Pictures
Interrupted pictures are pictures that I’ve taken and decided to add a little more creativity to in the form of drawings.
Process

These are the base sketches/Work In Progresses(WIP’s) of the Interrupted photos. A majority of my work was done on a drawing software called Sai Paint tool. I also used another software called Krita but I only used it for one of my drawings.

Reflection
Honestly, I wish I would have done more than just 4 images. My original plan was to do 10 of these. However due to time constraints, I wasn’t able to do that. I still really enjoyed the process of making these
Poem
For the explorations unit in English, we were tasked with creating a creative poem. To kick off the unit, we had Christine Moore(more info), a professional poet come in and teach us how to write poems. We would look at other poets poems and find the deeper meanings of those poems. We also wrote practice poems based on different things like locations that we like and news paper clippings. The final thing that we had to do for English was to write a 15~20 line poem.
For my poem, I chose to make a poem themed off of food & eating.
Night falls and the house quiets
Golden lamp’s luminescence dances through the cracks of the door
Light dare not chase me through the darkened hall
I saunter down the hall with the grace of a crane
My footsteps inaudible
Reality bends and warps as the dark hall eats light
Eyes strain to see what little of reality remains
A cold, dark figure awaits at the end of the hall
Lanky and hunched, watching and waiting
Lifeless eyes that do not see
Yet it doesn't exist
Hunting hands feel for the light switch
Ultimately, they find their prey…click
Not long after, I sashay to the fridge
Grabbing at the handle, ready to devour my choice
Reaching for a sandwich
Yearning stomach wailing, I eat
What the poem is about?
The poem was basically about me going down the hall in my house to get some food at night. The “figure” is just my description of the weird shapes and things that my mind makes when it has nothing to go off of. For some reason, my mind makes me imagine creepy things at the end of the hall or just… a feeling that something isn’t right. That is of course until I open the fridge in search of stuff to eat. then all those thoughts go away as I look for the perfect meal to satisfy my hunger.
Reflection
Honestly, I think I had more fun in this unit than I thought I would. Usually when I think of poems, I just get bored. However, this unit actually made me appreciate poems a lot more and be able to see more fun in making them. Will I make poems for fun? Probably not, it’s not really my cup of tea, but I still enjoyed the process.
Also if you didn’t notice it already, there’s a secret message hidden within my poem. It shouldn’t be too hard to find 🙂
