Watercolor Cursive Name

Our first project in Design this semester was to make watercolor name art. We wrote our name horizontally in cursive in Photoshop and mirrored the reflection on the other side (if you turn your head to the right, you can read the name). After printing it out, we painted inside the shapes created using watercolors. I like how abstract it looks and it almost reminds me of a fish skeleton. Although this was a short project, it was still enjoyable and relaxing!

Product Design

For this product, we created a product and designed a logo, label, and various mockups for. I started by making a moodboard with my color scheme and inspiration photos to flesh out my idea. I selected lotion as my product because it’s something I use every day, so I thought it would be fun to create a design for it.

To create the logo, I brainstormed three different sketches with different positions of the lavender stems in my sketchbook. After choosing my favorite, I imported the sketch to Adobe Illustrator and traced it. To give the product an elegant and feminine feel, I used light purple, a thin cursive font, sprigs of lavender, and a silhouette of a woman’s face in the center. Originally, my logo felt somewhat empty but with feedback from my classmates, I decided to add the face silhouette between the lavender sprigs.

Next, we designed a label using the logo from before and adding realistic features the packaging would have if this was actually being sold. For example, for my product, I added the weight.

Afterwards, I placed my label onto a mockup of a lotion bottle to demonstrate what my product would actually look like. I also created matching merchandise for the company Diti Lotion to go with it.

Finally, to create the mockups, I uploaded the logo and label designs to various items on Placeit and created the triptych in Photoshop to display the product and merchandise together. The main item in the middle is a lotion bottle and the merchandise images on the left and right are a tote bag and gift bag with the company logo.

Our last part of the product design project was to create a magazine advertisement in Adobe InDesign to convince people to buy our product. We started by researching different advertising appeals and techniques that real-life companies use and implementing them in into our own ad. I used logos and magic ingredients/scientific language to convince people that the product is beneficial so they will want to buy it.

Book Jacket

Our next project was to design a book jacket based on the story I created in English with RyeD and SofiaD. In our fantasy world, there are four magical tribes, each with their own unique way of doing magic. However, when a mysterious illness spreads through the valley, a studious young scholar from the Sigils Tribe joins three other misfits to uncover buried history.

Movie Poster

We also created a movie poster to go with our book jacket, again using the worldbuilding story from English.

I mainly used Adobe Illustrator to create this poster and live traced an image of a foggy valley for the background. I also added a drop shadow to the title, tagline, and release date to add more dimension and help them stand out.
