College personal essay
In English, we started by reading College Essay Essentials by Ethan Sawyer, which helped guide the process. Before writing the personal essay, we brainstormed “essence objects” that represented us for inspiration. Here are some of my essence objects:
- Paper Mate mechanical pencil
- Black hair tie
- Gold earrings that I wear nearly every day
- Glasses
- Lip balm
- Panda squishy (the face has peeled off)
- Pilot g-2 blue pen
- Etc
To organize the essay, we picked the direction we wanted to go in depending on if we knew what we wanted to study in college, if we faced a significant challenge in our life, both, or neither. The underlying question we were trying to answer is “Who am I?”
