Public Service Announcement (PSA)

For this project, we created a PSA, which is a message shared with the public to raise awareness about something. We started by making a moodboard to plan our color scheme and gather inspiration.

My PSA’s purpose is to motivate people to compost their food scraps in order to reduce waste in landfills. The letters in the words “spoil” and “soil” are composed of different objects related to those words. For instance, “spoil” is made of up different compostable foods, like banana peels and carrots. The drawings in “soil”, like the earthworm and flower, represent the actual composting process. I chose vibrant colors like orange, yellow, and green to represent nature and food as well as convey a sense of encouragement.

I made this in Adobe Illustrator by finding images from the internet and tracing them using the pen tool. I added a grain filter on the background to add more overall interest and dimension. The hardest part of this project for me was brainstorming different objects to make up the letters, especially the “P” in “spoil”. Overall, I am proud of the final product and like the variety of objects.

Aboriginal Art

Celestial Waves

For this project, we used Australian Aboriginal art symbols to represent the story of our life. My birthday is in October so my astrology sign is a Scorpio, which I depicted through the constellation and “M” symbol. I also used the Aboriginal symbol for water since Scorpio is a water sign, and water also represents being adaptable which is a trait that is important to me. I chose a monkey as my spirit animal because they are very playful and mischievous, two characteristics that describe me well.

I made this piece using the hard round brush tool in Adobe Photoshop. To help create depth, I layered dots and lines on top of each other with varying sizes and values. If I were to change anything, I think I would want to add more detail to the background to add more interest to the piece. Overall, this was definitely a very tedious project, but I think the final effect was worth it.
