Using advanced film techniques and professional equipment to execute our pre-production plan for our narrative film project was the main focus of Film Production. Following completion of production, we then used post-production techniques to refine the final product. Overall, being a first-year Senior allowed me to explore advanced cinematography and lighting techniques, learn how to make films look more cinematic, learn moving camera techniques, and study film theory.

As first-year Film students, my film partner and I were expected to pitch a log-line and synopsis for a 4-6 minute narrative story without any dialogue.

The Takeaway

What I valued most in the specific processes and productions in Film were the key lessons I not only learned about film theory, but also how to manage a long-term project. It was a very new experience as I did not have film experience prior to this year. It was definitely overwhelming for a little while at the beginning, but I have refined certain skills in planning and executing projects. The Narrative Film project taught me the most about project management, while the Lighting lessons by Mr. Taylor taught me the most about technique in film shooting.
