There are many aspects of my culture that bring me joy, from home-cooked meals to art. My dad’s side of the family is from Singapore and Malaysia, which I wanted to represent in this photo of Peranakan porcelain displayed in our home. These often feature curling plant motifs and imagery of the peony flower and phoenix in vivid colors. While they’re mostly ornamental, we’ve owned these dishes for a long time and the sight of them makes me feel at home.
