Narrative Visual Perspective in Film

Fun Projects Before Narrative

Our most fun mini project this year was the 1-minute movie. I loved this project because it was quick but we all go to work on every stage of making a move so one group wrote the story, one group shot the film and another group edited it. It made it very fun and unpredictable and everyone’s original story ended up a little different from what they thought it was going to be like which I liked a lot.

One of our first projects of the year was the 1-period film and I had a ton of fun with this. Doing everything in one period was hard but it was fun to see our idea come to fruition so quickly because usually the projects we do take so long.

In this unit, we were also introduced to lighting. So for one class, Mr. Taylor taught us about all the different types of ways you can light a shot, and then in the next class, we were given the assignment of the Lighting Scavenger Hunt. The Lighting Scavenger Hunt consisted of Mr. Taylor giving us a long list of shots we could get and then we chose how we wanted to make them. This was super fun and helped me understand and be able to create lighting looks.

Senior Narrative Film

The Senior Narrative is the project that all our Film skills lead up to. It is the project that everyone hypes up from the moment you step foot on Freestyle. Creating my Senior Narrative has been an eye-opening experience. Before this project, we dipped our toes into different styles of filmmaking but we didn’t do a deep dive into narratives so this was very interesting. We have been taught everything you need to do to create a film and have learned so many things through experience along the way. Here are some of the things we learned and created in order to create our Senior Narrative.

Pitch and Logline

The first thing we did was we had to think about our Pitch/Logline, my original pitch was about a girl whose grandpa with dementia gets scammed and she goes on a quest to scam the scammers who scammed her grandpa back. My logline was “time for the scammers to get scammed”

Film Synopsis

Mr. Taylor made us write the details of our final script out and write them down. Here is our Synopsis:

Dialogue Scene

Mr. Taylor also made us practice shooting dialogue with a script that he wrote.

Screenplay

Shot list

We had to plan out every shot we wanted to get and here is the pdf of all the shots we got.

Lined Script

The Lined Scriped is a script that is color-coded by everything you need to do to make your script happen. For example, if you need a prop you would color code it a certain color to know you need it.

I can’t find our lined script.

Stripboard

This was all of the times we needed to shoot and in certain locations.

Acting

We had to practice Acting so we knew how to direct actors on set. We had to pick a screenplay and act it out with a partner.

Senior Narrative

Here is my finished Senior narrative:

Reflection

Overall, this unit was super awesome. It was very fun to see all the work we had done leading up to this project. While our project is still a work in progress and will be done very soon. All the things that I practiced here came in very useful in the preproduction, shooting, and post-production of my Senior Narrative.
