Current Events

A photo split down the middle with one side showing The New York Times with various articles on war going on around the world, while the other is a snippet from 1984 by George Orwell stating the following: “War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength”. Taken at F/3.5, 1/40 Shutter Speed at 1250 ISO with a 18mm Lens.

For this prompt, we had to be inspired by current events. Earlier in the year, we read the book “1984” by George Orwell. The book has been cited many times as being so relevant it can apply to our modern day. I decided to use that comparison to my advantage to show how we often justify and excuse mass tragedy due to the desensitization of constant exposure and the idea that all of it is for the “greater good”. While of course, it would be insensitive to suggest this is some new innovative perspective on my part, I think it is always important to highlight the hypocrisy of how our society treats war and I thought visually comparing the fictional and real world would help with that.
