For this prompt, we were asked to show us a snapshot of our culture. Thus, I chose to photograph a typical Spanish dish, croquetas. My parents are both Spanish immigrants, and even though I was born and raised in America, I do my best to understand and respect where my dual identity as both an American and a Spanish citizen. Having family that lives on the other side of the world has it’s challenges, but getting snapshots of Spanish cuisine through restaurants like Cascal helps us feel connected to them even when we are miles away from each other. The warm ambience in this photo I feel helps capture the friendly and liveliness of a typical Spanish dinner, and I am glad to get to represent a different side of my life through a simple photograph.
