My WebGems

A webgem is my review of a website that I visit often that and means something to me. On this page there are multiple websites and descriptions of what they are and how I use them. These websites show who I am because I use each of them almost every day.

For my eighth Webgem I have chosen the website Netflix. Netflix is a streaming platform for watching tv shows and movies online. You have to purchase a monthly membership but with your purchase you are given access to thousands of tv series and many more movies. Along with streaming movies from a browser you can also order a movie to be delivered to your house. Netflix is a perfect platform for people like myself who enjoy locking themselves in a dark room and binge watching whole seasons of tv shows. I would recommend Netflix to anybody who has a lot of free time and loves watching tv or movies.

My seventh Webgem is on a website called Twitch.tv Twitch.tv is an online streaming platform used for people to display a live video stream of a video game. Twitch is a really cool site where you can hangout and watch someone play some video games. With hundreds of games and thousands of different streamers, the entertainment is endless. Each streamer has their own community, small or large, comprised of people who all enjoy watching the same person play. Twitch can also be used to help people who are aiming to improve at a game. A lot of people who on a professional esports team will stream to connect with their fans. Using twitch he can respond to questions via the chat system and give tips about how to improve in certain aspects of the game. Twitch is pretty much the gamer equivalent of netflix.

My sixth web gem is on SoundcCloud.Com. SoundCloud.com is a music streaming website. Unlike most music platforms you will find remixes of popular songs and original songs from artists that have not yet been discovered. SoundCloud has a huge impact on the EDM (Electronic Dance Music) community. It allows up and coming producers to showcase their music and receive feedback from people who enjoy similar music. It also creates a community of people who all enjoy listening to a certain genre of music where they can share songs with each other or post their own creations. I like soundcloud because I can find any type of music and stream it for free. I think that the free membership is the coolest part because it really lets anybody experience the website to its fullest.

My fifth Webgem is on a website called Reddit. Reddit is the procrastinators dream site. Have an essay due tomorrow you don't want to work on? Go peruse the front page to see some awesome pictures of mountains or a good looking cookie recipe. The great thing about Reddit is that it is seemingly endless. Just when you think you have exhausted everything cool on the site, you discover a subReddit. SubReddits are like mini websites within Reddit that focus on a specific topic. Each subReddit has its own community of people who enjoy the topic of that page. Perfect for stalling doing that essay due tomorrow.

My fourth Webgem is on a website called TED. TED is a website that helps people with ideas get themselves heard. They have exibitions where speakers talk about anything from a man whose mother hand washed clothes back in the day and was scared of the washing machine when it came out, to an eight year old boy creating a top 100 app on Apple's App Store. This site is very intriguing if you would like to learn about new cool innovations and inspirational stories.

My third Webgem is on a website called iFunny. iFunny is another community based website like reddit. There are two ways to go about using this website. You could simply be a consumer and look at all the user created pictures and GIFs, or you could be a content creature. One of my favorite things about this website is the huge population of people creating original art and internet memes. There is even a sort of reward system. The creators of the website and the staff will "feature" different works to highlight the creations that some people have made. I think it is really unique that the staff of the website are so active and show how much they really care about their users.

My second Webgem is on Spotify. If you have not yet clued in by now, music is a very large part of my life. Spotify is a music streaming website. Spotify allows you to create playlists from a computer from their massive collection of music. Then once you have music on your account you have the option to download their mobile app. With the app you can play your playlists on shuffle. The only downside of this website is unless you choose to pay five dollars a month, you will get advertisements and will not be able to pick which song you want. Besides that I really like this website and recommend it to anybody who likes music!

My first Webgem is on a website called YouTube. I am sure most people have heard about Youtube before, however if you have not here is the just of it. Youtube is a website that allows people to post videos of any kinds to be viewed by people all over the world. I love youtube because one of my favorite things to do is waste time. Youtube is by far the best way I have found to pass time. You want to watch cats doing silly things? Youtube has that. You want to learn how to make icecream? Youtube has that. You wan't to watch a turtle eating lettace with death metal in the background? Youtube might not have that... However youtube is a really cool site where you can find videos of almost anything. I recommend it to anybody who has time to kill or is just looking for something to do.
