These are blankets collected by Dale Chihuly at the Chihuly Garden and Glass. Chihuly was began collecting these textiles after growing fascinated by the juxtaposition of colors and patterns in their designs. When I saw the wall of blankets, I also appreciated how each blanket varied in design but was still cohesive with the rest.

Today’s political climate is extremely divided, and I often feel like the media is unrepresentative of the true breadth of issues that people around the world are facing. The wide variety of designs in the blankets reminds me of the importance of accurately representing a range of people, issues, and stories in the media to foster connection and empathy. While everyone has different experiences and leads different lives, we have a shared nature as humans that can bring us together.
