Explorations

Film

Explorations was the final project of our Junior year. Our job was simply to explore a new thing. We could pick any topic related to our elective class, in my case being film.

I chose to explore virtual effects using the After Effects program. It was interesting to explore a different aspect to filmmaking, and gave me a whole new perspective in the work VFX artists do for major films. I normally prefer to do the pre-production on the films, such as the planning or the story, so I didn’t have much experience with this side of movie-making. I enjoyed creating this project.

Digital Media

For Digital Media, we recorded some music in the newly complete recording studio. The purpose of this project was simply to get us to use the studio, and see what it has on offer. My friend Deepa and I recorded a segment of ABBA’s Dancing Queen. Deepa played the ukulele, and I played the djembe, an West African drum.

Deepa and I are both fans of ABBA’s music, so when we got to choose which song we’d record, the choice was obvious. Dancing Queen is the #1 ABBA classic, and I’ve used it for every single recording project we’ve done so far, from the parody at the beginning of the year, to the MIDI song at the end of the first semester, and now this final Junior year project.

We decided to call our short cover “Dancing Queen…s,” because it’s a funny riff on the original song.

English

In English, we wrote a lyrical essay. I have no idea what a lyrical essay is, other than “an essay, but not, actually.” The assignment practically seemed to be “just write a poem of some sort.” I decided to write what seemed like an actual essay about the Greek myth of Echo, but it becomes more about my own experiences being ignored. I didn’t get around to finishing my lyrical essay,
