Narrative 2: Film

Acting Scene (hasn’t been uploaded yet)

This project was to practice both acting and editing. We split into groups, and had to pick a dialogue scene from a movie. I ended up in the only group of three, which made much harder to find a scene. Eventually, we landed on a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. We had to memorize our lines, and then perform our scenes on camera, with the rest of the class acting as the crew. Each team member then had to edit their own cut of the scene. Here is my version:

Synopsis

My film is about a trio of burglars. The boss is a real asshole to his goons, constantly managing them and ignoring their wants and needs. The goons’ true passion isn’t stealing valuables, it’s stealing dog toys.

Screenplay

The first step of the filmmaking process is to come up with a story, and write a script. My group had a lot of trouble with this, bouncing from version to version, scrapping most of the story more than once. Here is the finished script:

The Finished Film: (I’ll upload when we finish editing)

This project was one of the hardest I’ve ever tackled. We ran into a lot of challenges all along the way, which really pushed me. When the project stagnated, I had to take command and push it forward. This was also a very tiring project, because I had to coordinate with five other people in order to do anything. Finding a time when everyone was available to film was a challenge, but we managed it pretty well. Despite my group being the last to finish our script in our class, we were the first to start filming, and the first to finish. We submitted our first draft of the movie before anyone else in any of the classes. Overall I am very proud of the effort I put into the film.
