Showcase

Introduction

Welcome to my showcase webpage, and thank you for taking the time to review it! My name is Gordon Schmidt, a senior at Los Altos High School and a Film student at Freestyle Academy. Next fall I will be attending Saint Mary’s College of California majoring in Media Production. For my showcase, I decided to present my Zenith: our final senior project. My focus was on foley and sound design. Ever since I was young, I enjoyed making videos and short films. Over the years I’ve gotten better at using the audio to increase the quality and immersion of my videos, but I’ve only ever used sounds downloaded off the internet. For this project, I wanted to try making my own sound effects for the first time.

Showcase Video

This is my showcase video, where I show my sound design of two movie clips with a little reflection at the end.

Showcase Reel

This is my showcase reel, showing my best works from my time in Film at Freestyle. I am a first year senior, meaning I have only been at freestyle for 1 year.

Reflection

I hope to continue experimenting with foley and take advantage of the skills I’ve learned throughout this project. It’s really opened up my eyes to how complicated editing in 5.1 surround sound can get once you move past the very basics. I did not get to dive much into 5.1 because of the amount of time I had for the project, so I would be interested in working more with it in the future.

Even though I’ve only had one year at Freestyle, I think I’ve grown a lot as a digital artist. Since joining I’ve now had experience with Adobe Illustrator, Pro Tools, and Adobe After Effects. Freestyle has made me realize how many different digital art forms exist and what’s available to me. I’m really glad to have been able to meet such a welcoming community!
