Color without Color
This photo depicts a part of the city of Los Altos, between Lincoln Park and Down Town Los Altos. I moved here when I was around 5 years old, and for the past 13 years, this city has been my home. When I leave in a few months for college, I’ll be saying goodbye to everything that I’m familiar with.

Who Inspires You
My friend Simran recently got a local job, slowly but surely starting her journey towards independence and adulthood. I’ve known her since elementary school, and it’s crazy to see how we’re now both 18. Her dedication to become more independent is something that I look up to, and I admire her hard work.

Fill the Frame
My friend Daniel posed in his dark backyard for me after we went Christmas Caroling while we went trick or treating with his whole family. I changed the photo to black and white to make more interesting contrast with the black, and to bring out the white in the skeleton shirt and pants. I didn’t want the red in his eyes to interfere and add more color to the photo.

Friends and Family
This photo of Nicole was taken by me when we went to San Fransisco, and visited Pier 39 on the insistence of our mutual friend. Nicole is one of my few friends that I made throughout high school. She’s incredibly special to me, especially since most of my friends are from elementary and middle school, and it’s incredibly hard for me to make new friends. Nicole works incredibly hard, and she’s always’s there to listen and laugh with me.

Your Habits
Everyone will tell you that a good habit to develop is to make your bed every morning. While this isn’t a habit that I have adopted permanently, one day, I made my bed and it felt nice to go to sleep in a clean slate. It’s something that I hope to integrate into my daily routine.

Facial Symmetry
In exploring facial symmetry, I took a photo of my friend, Angie, and edited it in Photoshop to create a symmetrical left and a symmetrical right edit of her face.

My Culture
I am half-Japanese and half-Chinese, and Asian culture is a large part of my life, especially considering that my family owns two sushi restaurants. Ever since I was little, I would wait in the back of the restaurant, entertaining myself while my parents worked. As I grew older, I began to help around, especially during COVID when I would package take-out orders. Sushi is a huge part of my culture, which is why I chose to photograph a dish from the restaurant.
