Shadows

50mm 1/1,000 f1.8 ISO6400

This photo is attempting to convey a sense of hopelessness. The shadow around the eye almost looks like a bruise, and there’s no reflection of light in the iris. It almost gives the illusion of “dead” eyes. The harsh lighting around the rest of the eye provides visual contrast, balance, and visual readability to the photo. The texture of the skin is emphasized, a dryness that also subjects the subject’s fall into hopelessness.

New Beginnings

24mm 1/40 f2.8 ISO640

The prompt for this was “New Beginnings” with the task of telling the story of a new beginning through a circular pattern. This one needs quite a bit of explaining. – I’m an athlete, and that means that I try to take good care of myself for the longevity of my sport. I ice my knees and joints a lot to reduce swelling and help with pain. These are the wraps I use. Healing is far from linear, and with my sport, is a repeating cycle. So this seemed like the perfect thing to capture, here!

Sunsets

50mm 1/250 f3.2 ISO200

The sunsets lately haven’t been super brilliant, but I like this toned-down look. You can see that hint of orange in the clouds. This isn’t super complicated. I walked to a park near me around sunset and snapped this real quick.

Sports stories

50mm 1/1000 f 22 ISOv3200

This was taken at my first Lacrosse tournament of the year, packing up after the second day. This sport has always been a part of my life, and the inevitable melancholy of the end of the event, but also the joy of playing, is something I always feel after a game is over and the day is done. I tried to capture this photo to communicate that sentiment. The dark and blur of the sticks contrasted with the bright joy of my colorful athletic tape truly captures this feeling.

Self-Portrait

(Shutter Speed 1/100, F7.5, ISO 800)

For this photo, I’ve shown a fictionalized/arranged version of my workspace, showing my creative process and the way I feel while creating. I set a timer, and put my camera very high up, and took around 30~ different shots with me working on several different pieces of art before I found what fit.
