Comic – Zenith Project

Zenith Website

One of the final projects of the year was the Zenith. For this project we had the freedom to do almost anything we wanted and for mine I chose to do a comic. Having learned how to do 3D modeling in my Animation II class, my goal for this comic was to use 3D background models to save on time. I also tried to be creative with the panelling rather than sticking to rectangles/boardered backgrounds.

Finished Zenith

My original idea for the Zenith was going to be a short 2D animation but it ended up being scrapped due to time constraints. Still it was a good experience to reference how people moved in real life while doing 2D animation.

Monster Munchies – Narrative Project

Narrative 2 – Animation Website

For our Narrative 2 unit in Animationhttps://freestyleacademy.rocks/~KaiZ/narrative-2/narrative-visual-perspective-in-animation/, my group and I created a 3D animated short with all the characters we designed during the year. Although I ran into some issues with the motion capture and ended up hand animating some things, it was a fun project and I’d love to try doing something similar in the future.

Narrative 2 Storyboards

Part of the Narrative 2 planning part was to figure out a clear story that we wanted to tell. After discussing together as a group, I went ahead and did a few quick sketches for a storyboard so it would be easier to know what we would be animating. We ended up adding extra scenes and removing some others due to it being a bit difficult to tell what was going on. Overall it was a good experience.

Laboratory – Multi-Layered Art Project

Narrative 2 – Digital Media Website

Along with the Narrative 2 unit in Animation, we had a Multi-layered Art Project were we all got the option to choose between a lightbox, stacked wood art and ring art. We first would create 2D layers on Adobe Illustrator then they would be laser cut onto 3D objects like paper and wood. I decided to go with the stacked wood option as I felt like it would fit my idea while also making things less complicated than a lightbox would.

The stacked wood art is related to the worldbuilding project we did in English. Figuring out what I wanted to do for the wood art itself was difficult as there were so many things in the worldbuilding I wanted to include. I ended up settling on doing part of the ending where the player character fights against the antagonist for the last time inside of a laboratory.

The most difficult part for this piece was definitely getting the layering right as even after checking multiple times, I ended up with a couple layering issues were pieces were missing or things were too large. Putting it together was also quite messy but it was a really fun project that I don’t think I would have ever tried doing if I had not gone to Freestyle.
