Narrative Visual Perspective in Design

Watercolor Cursive Name

The first project we did for this unit is the watercolor name project. First we started off in Photoshop writing our names in cursive and having it mirrored so it reflects to the other side. After Ms. P printed it out, we started to paint with watercolor and have a color pallet in mind. It’s a pretty short project but I enjoyed it very much.

Product Design

For this project, we have to make a product, a logo, a label and many mockups for it. First, we made a moodboard for about our product and the kind of vibe we are aiming for. I chose chili oil as my product since I love eating chili oil.

logo design

To create the logo, I drew three different sketches to get an idea of what I might want. After choosing the one I like, I import the picture into Adobe Illustrator to color it. I mainly use red, orange and yellow to get the heat vibe into the logo.

Afterwards, I use the logo to create my label. I added in where my product was created, how much it weights, what I’m selling and the website.

triptych

In the middle of the triptych is my product which is dried shrimp chilli oil. To the left of the product is one of my two merches, a tote bag with the logo surrounded by red chilies peppers rotated in different ways and to the right of the product is a bucket hat with the same design as the tote bag. My choice of product came from my love for Laoganma which is a Chinese spicy chili oil that I grew up eating. I wanted to do many things and had thought of many different products before landing on chili oil.

For the creation of this project, I used Adobe Illustrator to make my designs, Plackit for my mockups and Adobe Photoshop to make my triptych. I went through many designs for my logo and I had a hard time choosing what I like and where to place my chili pepper. I had a hard time picking if I should have all the is be chilis or only one to not make it look too busy since logos should be on the more simple side. One of the hardest is showing the heat of my product since when you think of chili oil, you think of heat and spice. I later decided to use flames to show the heat of my product and shrimps to show that it was made from dried shrimp. I wanted to connect all of my images together with the same red background to make the triptych cohesive along with the same cream color on all of my products.

Book Jacket

Our next project was to design the book cover for the world building we did in English with our group (AshD, LillianH and SylviaC). Our world is set in the 21st century where AI technology had intergraded into everyday life. Our main protagonist is a young women name Ruby and she comes a spy for a bitter businessman who wants to tear down his rivals.

Movie Poster

After making the book cover we then made the movie poster to go along with it.

movie poster

My movie poster is based on the world building project we did in English class where it’s set in the 21st century city where AI technology powers monopolies and a corrupt government, a lonely young women named Ruby becomes a spy for a bitter businessman wanting to tear down his rivals, seeking to expose the truth about the misuse of AI and hold those responsible accountable.

I use Adobe Photoshop to create my movie poster because the whole thing was hand drawn. First I did serva sketches of what it could look like before choosing one. I drew the main protagonist Ruby first before drawing the city below her. I also added some texture to the background so the yellow from the title name doesn’t seem too out of place.

I learn how to shade someone when the light source is from below. The movie poster was a struggle for me because I didn’t know how I wanted my poster to go at first. It took a lot of browsing on DuckDuckGo to get an idea of what to do.
