Now that I look at this image closer, my lens was way too wide open. I should have realized that by the 1/2000 shutter speed. This is quite a common spot for taking prom photos. What makes it distinctive is the shadows of all the neoclassical arches of stanford university. Plus the gaps of light which can give subjects a side glow as shown in here.
