Narrative Visual Perspective in English

A lyrical essay is a hybrid form of writing that combines figurative and visual language of poetry with a traditional autobiographical, or personal essay. Students were challenged to investigate a topic of their choice, by conducting research across various sources, and writing a lyrical essay of their own.

For my Lyrical Essay, I chose to write about growing older, college, responsibilities, and the worries that students have about it. Not only did I have to focus on my college applications as I was writing this, but I also had work from extracurriculars and other classes in school. I recall that I was stressed every day, and I had trouble focusing on my work because I was constantly overwhelmed. That stress and anxiety eventually became my inspiration for this piece.
