Hey there! My name is Mezi Iroaga and in 2019-2020 I was a senior involved in English Honors, Digital Media and Film Production at Freestyle Academy. In being involved in this program, I learned a lot about the adobe software such as After Effects, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro, and I also learned specifically what it takes to produce a successful and engaging film. Being in Freestyle also taught me how to manage my time and have detailed planning because it offers a more project-based learning style which challenged my skills in discipline and time management.

Aside from Freestyle, I was also very involved in dance at school. I was the President of the Spartan Dance Club, and I was also the Treasurer of the entire dance program at Mountain View High School. I also loved to produce art that can tell stories in the form of writing, music, digital painting and photography. In addition to dance and art, I also loved to connect with friends and family.

My experience in Freestyle was all positive, but I also learned what it really means to work hard and get help. Although Freestyle is supposed to be a two year experience, I joined in on the second year, and I had a lot to catch up on. But, very soon I learned that everyone at Freestyle was there to support and help me. So, I was able to learn a lot and grow a lot during my time at Freestyle Academy.

Short reflection (from Senior Exit Survey):

Freestyle was an amazing experience and it has taught me a lot about collaboration, time management, scheduling, independence, and community. Also, it really influenced me to want to pursue film in the future, and hopefully eventually finding a career in film. I also feel like Freestyle was kind of a bridge between what high school classes and college classes are like, which was super cool.
