For the humor project, I chose to make some political cartoons. My main focus in terms of humor was satire and irony. Originally, I was going to make three or so single-panel comics showcasing how different political groups view each other. I eventually changed my strategy and went with one full strip. I took inspiration from comic artist Garry Trudeau and his comic, Doonesbury, and comedian John Oliver and his show, Last Week Tonight. Like the two, I picked a current political topic: in fact, I picked two. In the comic itself, American politicians are arguing over what to do about deforestation occurring in some third-world country, debating how to develop the land. Republicans are in favor of infrastructure and the economy, Democrats want to build up nice housing to attract richer residents, and the Green Party wants to replant the trees and fight deforestation and global warming. Of course, none of the politicians pay heed to the residents of the country itself, which I point out in my comic—the more “meta” topic of America and other first-world countries fighting over what to do about third-world countries, without consulting said country.

The media for this project were both physical and digital. I initially sketched out the comic in pencil on a sheet of paper, and decided that I actually liked that greyscale pencil-lead “sketched” style. I scanned the paper and colored it in Adobe Photoshop.
