Lyrical Essay

Imagine

You live in the Hamptons.

You have a husband.

And two children.

You prepared breakfast; it is on the table. You forgot to buy milk. You need to put it on the grocery list. You are so stressed with your kids running around stealing the dough from the muffins you are baking for their kindergarten. You give your husband a goodbye kiss and breathe.

The room is filled with herb rose perfume. The wood is cracking. There is a breeze coming through the window. Quiet music is playing on the radio. It is calm. You lean back on the soft sofa and just let your mind wander. The masseuse just entered the room and is setting up. You let out a relieved sigh.

Daydreaming is not something that is restricted by age it is constant through your life and is truly a gift for people that know how to practice it.

Daydreaming can be so intense and deep you might even not be able to tell what is reality from fiction. You dream of a different life, the perfect life. But you also dream of hell where everything is going wrong to remind me that real life isn’t the worst that it can be.

You got an A on the test. The day is perfect. You made your parents proud.

She is so beautiful. After you met her at the cafe, you kept seeing her around school. The thought of her never left your mind. You are not sure what I feel. She is sitting behind me. You feel her blue eyes staring at you.The teacher passed out our latest exams. The scantron looks so satisfying as you hand it back to the teacher. The lesson continues. You stare out the window.

Someone hands you a piece of paper. You can sense the smell on the paper. It is her perfume. You smell it before you open it. On the paper in beautiful handwriting is written: “Do you want to spend the afternoon together?”

She is holding your hand. You decided to spend the afternoon at a cafe close to the school. She is really nice shares the same interest of astronomy with you.

She only looked at you because there is a huge stain on your back.

You never even talked to her in real life but although you had fun you could feel how it did not make you happy in the way you thought. Although it was a nice thought I am not attracted to her or any other girls. Dreaming about a feeling and letting yourself get in depth of a situation without actually doing it lets you experience a situation without the embarrassment of it actually happening. It is a way of finding yourself in your own mind.

Its like reality is talking to your imagination. A perfect world that makes you happy or lets you find out what really makes you happy.

Life is scaring and really hard to cope with a lot of time and daydreaming brings happiness. It allows you to picture the world the way that you wish it truly was. It allows me to see the best and purest things and allow them to better the dark and twisted world that we live in.
