Showcase

Introduction

Welcome to my showcase page! My name is Noah Esparza and I am a senior at Freestyle Academy, with a huge passion for clothing and design. Through the Freestyle Academy classes Digital Media, Design, and English, I’ve gotten many opportunities to better my creativity, art, and design skills, and being able to step outside of my comfort zone has definitely played a big part in the growth of these skills. My growth has allowed me to feel and be more natural when working which has played a big role in the creation of my projects. The three projects I have shown below are my best creations throughout my years at Freestyle and I am very proud of all the work that I’ve created at Freestyle Academy. I hope you enjoy these projects as much as I did! Thank you.

Projects:

NO-LIMIT HONEY

The first project I chose is from our product design unit, using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop I created a honey brand from scratch called NO-LIMIT HONEY.

NO-LIMIT HONEY Magazine AD

My product is homemade honey that is made from sunflowers. It is marketed toward those who are looking for a more organic and natural type of honey. This 100% organic honey is known best for its health benefits and amazing raw taste. If you are looking for a honey product with a sweeter and more organic taste you’ll never forget! that kicks the other store brand honey out the picture then NO-LIMIT HONEY is for you.

The target market is specifically people who prefer a more natural honey product. The demographic that No-Limit Honey appeals to is healthy lifestyles such as people who pick products that are much more organic for a healthier lifestyle.

With the creation of No-Limit Honey, the appeal I used would attract consumers who prefer more organic products. To show this appeal by using bold text showing the pureness of our honey. I gave it that look of a true homemade brand through the use of a cartoonish logo with an older look of text. I also made sure that my logo had a bright and unique look that most honey brands wouldn’t use. I would then finish it off by giving a fun look to the magazine ad itself through cartoon text and little bears eating the honey as well as a cartoon of a farm to show that sense of homemade/all organic honey even more.

I learned a lot from this project, who knew that creating a simple sketch could then later be used to create a logo, products/clothing, and even a magazine ad! My skills grew a lot thanks to this project and I will definitely see myself applying these skills later on in life.

THE WATCHERS

My second project I chose to showcase was from the Movie Poster Unit, using Adobe Illustrator I created a horror film movie poster called THE WATCHERS.

Finished Movie Poster

“The Watchers” is a horror film about two creatures that a boy named John made up one late night while drawing in an unknown notebook he found in his basement. While John finishes these drawings in the notebook he finds he starts to get tired and heads to bed leaving the notebook in the living room. John falls asleep and has no idea that the notebook brings anything you draw to life. As John is sleeping these creatures he drew out come to life which is the scene showed in my movie poster and begin to start their murderous rampage. The whole city is in absolute chaos and John has no idea that these creatures he created are going to come after him next. What will he do?

When creating my movie poster project I wanted to create something super creepy. Using Adobe Illustrator I began to start my horror film movie poster. Using image traces  in Illustrator I was able to create my creepy woods background. I then used some sketches of random monsters/creatures I had already drawn for fun. I used the pen tool to trace over my sketches. Once I finished with that I then drew out my moon and different shades on the moon to give it that creepy look as well as add detail to it.  I then finished the poster off by adding an outer glow to my moon to make it pop and give it a more real look. I then put my finished movie poster into Adobe Photoshop and added my movie poster template which added credits, movie premiere date, and a website.

Reconstructed T-Shirt

For my third and final project I chose to showcase my Zenith Project, with the help of YouTube, a sewing machine, and my risk to change my idea two days before the deadline I created a reconstructed T-Shirt made up of many old graphic t-shirts I had laying around.

For my Zenith project, I decided to take on sewing and create a reconstructed T-Shirt. I chose this idea because I wanted to challenge myself in a way I have never before by trying to create a piece of clothing which I had zero experience with. I went into the art of reconstructing t-shirts only knowing that it was just a couple of t-shirts cut and sewn together that then created one T-Shirt, but I was blown away with all of the unique methods of stitching, and fabric cutting, measuring, etc.

I started to research and learn more about creating a reconstructed t-shirt. Luckily, I already had a somewhat good understanding of the basics of how to put together a reconstructed t-shirt which helped me start my process. I began searching for different forms of reconstructed t-shirts. I fell in love with the reconstructed era of one of my favorite designers, Maison Margiela.

I made the risk two days before the deadline to follow through with my original reconstructed t-shirt idea. Knowing nothing about sewing and how to work a sewing machine I got to work and took the risk to learn these skills and make my idea work.

Getting to learn how to sew definitely elevated my skills and experiences. This project I can say opened my eyes and I value the time and effort people put into creating clothing. Allowing my risks to grow my skills was a choice I will forever never regret.

Reflection

I’m proud to say that I have grown as a design student in ways I personally never thought I would have in the 2 years of being at Freestyle Academy. Not only have I gotten better at using the many softwares provided to us by Freestyle like Photoshop,Illustrator, and After Effects, but This growth has opened up a lot of my creativity, knowledge, and how I value and see art and design. I feel much more natural when working. My creativity comes without any issues. I proudly say that working on bigger projects in the future will be much easier now thanks to Freestyle Academy. I value my work very much and I’m very thankful for all the opportunities and new skills I was able to obtain from Freestyle Academy.
