Introduction and Reflection

“How do you creatively and truthfully portray a significant person, group, place, idea, or issue in the community?”

For the Junior Documentary Project, students must portray an intriguing person, place, group, issue, or idea, by gathering primary and secondary research sources to develop a distinct perspective about their subject’s significance in the world or community. The research-based paper from English class serves as a copy for the magazine article in Design and a film, commercial, and website. This unit emphasizes narrative-style journalism.

For my project, I chose to interview local musicians/artists. My project was focused on fandom and how it’s important to protect it as a creative. I was able to learn a lot from my interviewees and apply their knowledge to my own musicianship. I took inspiration from the book: “Steal Like An Artist” by Austin Kleon.

This has easily been my favorite project so far. I valued being able to connect with local artists and research a topic that I was very interested in.

Elective Class Production

For my design class, our final product was a magazine article. We wrote an article in English and put it into Adobe Indesign to create an article layout. We were instructed to interview at least two people and gather photos of our interviewees, their environment, and aesthetic photos.

Below is the process I took to create my magazine article. My design teacher taught me how to use Indesign and I applied those skills and created the layout for the magazine article.
