Lyrical Essay

This essay gave us the freedom to write about dogs, cars, music, art, or basically anything we wanted. We were instructed to take inspiration from poems and incorporate it into our essays. I wrote my essay on Pink Floyd.

A Shooting Star

The 60’s. This is when it all started.

Coming from academic backgrounds at Cambridge, the earliest members were eager to learn about art, architecture, and music. These members include: Roger Waters, Roger Barrett, and David Gilmour. Each of them are talented guitarists. Their desires are to explore the world and be able to express themselves in it. 1

In the mid 60’s, they met Nick Mason and Rick Wright. One extraordinarily talented experimental percussionist and one extraordinarily talented keyboard player. They were amazing. After changes in style and personnel, this group would eventually earn their place along the Beatles and Led Zeppelin. 3

They were known for their sonic exploration, extended musical compositions, philosophical lyrics, crazy live shows, and became the leaders of the progressive rock era.

They took over festivals and dreamed of being pop stars.

Sold 250 million records.

Made some of the best albums of all time.

But like most bands, they split up.

Personal tensions took over.

Water’s ego had told him that he was the reason for Pink Floyd’s success. He eventually sued the band for its name. 2

How could such a band continue though? Their huge shows, skyrocketing success, and phenomenal talent had all built up for so long that it was bound to crash.

Lyrical Essay Production

For my Lyrical Essay Production, I decided to create an instrumental that relates to my theme. I used software such as Logic Pro X to create the music and mix/mastered it.

Reflection

I really enjoyed writing my essay and creating the music. I was able to build on my skills and incorporate my interest in music with my assignment in English.
