Diptych

Mother Nature

What is a diptych? A diptych is two photographs that either are similiar or completely unrelated that ultimatley represent one idea.

During design class, we were asked to come up with a statement about ourselves that others were unaware of. With the statement we were then to come up with two unrelated photos that metaphorically would represent it.

Mother Nature

My diptych represents the relationship I have with my mom. The picture (left) of the nest, shows how my mom has protected me and helped me grow just like a momma bird would to do to their precious eggs. The picture (right) of the bird perched on the feeder represents me. After being nurtured for so long, I finally feel like the shell has been shed and I no longer need the same protection as I used to. As I stand alone, a part of my mom still remains inside of me. Although I am independent, the decisions I make in the future will be based on how I was raised. At first I was going to use butterflies instead of birds, but due to camera difficulties, I was not able to capture clear pictures of the butterflies. The diptych, being one of the first major projects for Design, was challenging but fun. I am happy with how well my photographs turned out, because I am new to using the cameras.

Using different apertures, settings, shutter speeds, and lighting, we were supposed to capture the metaphoric moment using these guidelines. The different settings on the cameras would help make the mood of our photograph. The two photos I used contrast each other nicely. The nest on the left side balances the bird feeder on the right side, making it easy on the eyes. After selecting the two photographs we wanted to use, we uploaded them to Adobe Photoshop. On this program, we’ve learned to edit the photos carefully. Cropping the diptych, adding color hues, and putting the two pictures together was not easy. Using the wacomb pad, was probably one of the hardest things for me, only because I was so used to using a mouse. Photoshop is a very cool program that we are lucky enough to use. The color hue I added to my photo really made a big difference, and I was very glad we were taught how to do so.
