white balance

A photo of a candle burning in a pitch black room.
1/64 f5 ISO1600

For this week’s photo, we were supposed to creatively use white balance to take a photo that’s not color accurate. I thought it would be cool to make the light from a candle look very vibrant and red. I lit this candle on my desk, because I loved the way the wood grain reflected the light. I really like how the colors came out, and how bright the candle looks in contrast to the dark background! This theme was super fun for me, because I love to play around with colors and light in my photos. I think fire is also a very inspiring subject to work with! It’s so warm and bright, and I think I was able to reflect that with the vibrant oranges and reds in this photo.

This week, the only restraint we had was that we couldn’t edit our photo – we had to post what came out of our camera. I loved the freedom this gave me, as well as the challenge of getting it right in the moment, knowing you can’t go back and…
