This week, I tried out some new methods of using props for trick photography. I wanted to tell the story of a fun childhood toy, the cup phone with strings between each cup. The idea is that if you talk into one end, the person on the other end can hear you through the string. I cut the bottom out of one cup and attached it around the camera lens to get the feeling that the viewer is looking through the paper cup phone at the person on the other end. The string connecting the viewer to the “listener” on the other end of the line acts as a leading line. I like the effect of looking through a “window” that is the cup, and I also really like the greenery behind the subject.
