Painting

As per usual I was very excited to complete this project while knowing I had a lot of artistic freedom. This piece is extremely based on an original character I have been developing over the past few weeks. In an attempt to not give a lot away, this character joins a galactic universe becoming half a star who at several parts of her journey through multiple dimensions has to face other demonic individuals. Among extra details, her story advances toward a rocky relationship she shares with a vain and self centered star but, as we all know, stars die eventually becoming supernovas. In my painting I wanted to illustrate the final moments my character spends with her soon to pass away lover and the overwhelming sadness that overcomes her mixed with all the hurt she was never able to heal with her partner.

Long Lost Lover

Doing this project really gave me the chance to get to know my character better and have an audience know her as well without me needing to introduce her. Not only that but having the extra time to complete this project really helped me perfect it and experiment with a bunch of things that were out of my comfort zone in Adobe Photoshop. I was able to use multiple types of brushes and effects on layers that I had no idea would make the final piece look more attractive. I think while it was definitely very fun to find out about those hidden “easter eggs” on photoshop, it was also a struggle to use them on favor of the painting because I wanted it to look just right and in order to achieve that I often created different layers for test purposes until I used just the right brush or effect. Overall I am very proud of the final product not only because it challenged me to experiment with a lot of different techniques while getting to know my character better but also because I see an improvement on a media I do not consider myself to be really good at.
