One of the biggest and most controversial topics of this time is the discourse around Israel, Hamas, and Palestine. These recent months, there has been an explosion of voices and emotions in college campuses especially about this conflict. Young people, whether they are about to enter university or are already in it, are getting increasingly anxious as many university administrations seem to care more about containing and quelling this discourse than protecting students, their voices, and guiding effective conversations and protests around this. There are strong underlying and sometimes unspoken ties to the university protests during the Vietnam War, and how the actions of university administrations have sometimes changed little to those of that time. There is fear and uncertainty and doubt, and also courage and a desire to speak for people’s lives and safeties.
