About Me

My name is Sophie and I attended Mountain View High School and Freestyle Academy, with Design as my elective. I’m Chinese American and am from the Bay Area, California. I love to spend time with my friends and family as well as dance, sing, travel, and listen to music in my free time.

My main core values in life are family, friendship, happiness, and health/wellness. I value family and friendship because these are relationships and connections that last a lifetime and I think it’s important to have people who support and care about you. I also value health and wellness and think that in order to do my best in both academic and personal aspects in life, I need to be healthy and have a flexible mindset, which can allow me to reach my full potential.

Outside of school I enjoy singing with Cantabile Youth Singers, dancing with MVHS’ Dance Spectrum, and volunteering within the program National Charity League. At home I love listening to music (pop, K-Pop, C-Pop) and reading (romance, mystery). When spending time with my family, we like to watch TV shows or movies, have game nights, and travel to places such as Hawaii, Taiwan, and Disneyland.

At Freestyle, I hoped to grow more artistically within all of my classes (English, Digital Media, and Design), especially by training my brain to “see” rather than simply “look.” I also hoped that my Digital Media class would help me grow technically by allowing me to learn how to use the different software programs available to Freestyle students. Through my time at Freestyle, I was able to take what I learned and apply it to projects, assignments, and experiences that prepared me for future opportunities and my future career.

I valued that the environment at Freestyle was very different from Mountain View High School because my classmates were extremely supportive, and the smaller class sizes allowed us to build a close community. I also appreciated how the projects and assignments encouraged creativity, which helped me grow as an artist. The advanced technology at Freestyle was another aspect I valued because learning to use a variety of software expanded my knowledge and gave me the skills to create more complex and polished works of art.

Looking back on my experience at Freestyle, I’m really grateful for the opportunity to explore what I’m passionate about while growing creatively. Freestyle helped me develop new skills in design, storytelling, and communication that I know I’ll be able to apply in the future. It also pushed me to think more creatively and step outside of my comfort zone in ways that helped me grow both as a student and as a person.
