My name is Sophie Lam and I am currently a junior attending Mountain View High School and Freestyle Academy, with Design as my elective. I’m Chinese American and was born in the Bay Area, California. I love to spend time with my friends and family as well as dance, sing, travel, and listen to music in my free time.

My main core values in life are family, friendship, happiness, and health/wellness. I value family and friendship because these are relationships and connections that last a lifetime and I think it’s important to have people who support and care about you. I also value health and wellness and think that in order to do my best in both academic and personal aspects in life, I need to be healthy and have a flexible mindset, which can allow me to reach my full potential.

Outside of school I enjoy singing in Cantabile Youth Singers, dancing with MVHS’ Dance Spectrum, and volunteering within the program National Charity League. At home I love listening to music (pop, K-Pop, C-Pop) and reading (romance, mystery). When spending time with my family, we like to watch TV shows or movies, have game nights, and travel to places such as Hawaii, Taiwan, and Disneyland.

At Freestyle, I hope to grow more artistically within all of my classes (English, Digital Media, and Design), especially by training my brain to “see,” rather than “look.” Additionally, I hope my Digital Media class will help me to grow technically by allowing me to learn how to use all of the different softwares available to Freestyle students and from my time at Freestyle, I hope to take what I learned here and apply it to the things I do in the future such as projects, assignments, and possibly in my future career.

I value that the environment of Freestyle is much different than Mountain View High School in that my classmates are all extremely supportive, and because of the smaller class sizes, we can really build a close community. I also value how the projects and assignments assigned at Freestyle allow for a lot of creativity, which I think really helps me grow as an artist. The advanced technology at Freestyle is also something I value because being able to use the different softwares can expand my knowledge and allow me to be able to make more complex works of art.
