Welcome to my website!
Hi everyone, I'm Stella! In Web/Audio here at Freestyle, we have been assigned to design a website that answers the question "Who am I?" My website is a reflection of who I am and my journey of figuring out who I want to be.
This website connects to my self portrait essay in English and my diptych, which both discuss my quest for self-discovery. My identity is like a sunrise; it comes out little by little, then lights up the whole sky. The light bulb buttons reflect this process, lighting up when hovered over, with each of them representing a different part of me, and a different aspect of my life that contributes to my identity, whether it's my family or my friends.
In creating the design of this website, we used Dreamweaver, and in creating its content, we used a variety of applications, including Photoshop (for images), Illustrator (for our illustration), Lightroom (for our photogallery), and GarageBand (for creating music). We created a template for the entire website for uniformity and efficiency, then applied it to almost all the pages. We used CSS (cascading style sheets) to format and design our pages. We learned to create rollover buttons by creating duplicate Photoshop images on a single file and then hiding the overflow and adjusting the height of the buttons. In Dreamweaver, we created multiple divs to organize the content, and included .mp3, .m4v, .jpg, and .png files on our website.
The entire experience of creating my own Self Portrait website was a huge learning experience for me. Assembling all the content as well as making the design look aesthetically pleasing was definitely a new challenge that we, as a class, all went through together. It was very rewarding, though, to see my final product on a browser and to know that it will actually be on the internet, for everyone to see! Through this project I have realized that I really do love web design, and though some of the processes may be quite tedious and complex, they are definitely worth seeing my work live.
Sunrise
In English, we were assigned to write a poem that reflects one of the ten things we've learned, and that includes many images that could serve as inspiration for future pieces. In my poem, I chose to portray the message "live in the moment" through an unforgettable experience I had this summer, and described how it affected my outlook on life. In Web/Audio, we created a simple photo based on this poem that was symbolic of the messages that our poems attempted to convey. Because my poem described a sunrise, I chose to stick with a simple gradient background somewhat resembling the sun coming up from behind the horizon, and allowed the words of the poem itself to take the spotlight.
