In English, we were tasked with researching some political topic and writing a paper about it, in preparation for our world-building unit. The political issue I decided to get into was the issue of educational funding. The topic interested me, in part because I want to become a teacher and school funding has been a prevalent issue in today’s education. I did a bunch of research, and in the end, wrote a 5 page essay covering the different community and political issues in current day educational funding.
Later on to accompany the research project, we worked on a surreal composition to get a sense of what a world related to our political issue. I chose to create a world where books and information are kept tightly locked, which was supposed to be in relation to how in today’s world, education is the information which is kept locked.
Overall the worldbuilding project was pretty fun and really helped me understand an aspect of the world, in this case being education. The process of taking that and turning it into our own world gave me both an appreciation for writers (its hard!) and also gave me valuable experience as a writer myself.
