Introduction

In all of my classes the conceptual unit has helped me to explore my creativity. Whether I was working on Design English or Digital Media, I was having a lot of fun struggling to create a work of art that actives my goals. I learned the value of ideas in this unit and how the conceptual part of the project is as if not more important than the actual execution, or final product of the assignment. This project forced me to step outside my comfort zone, because I like products that have a stick set of rules that I can stick to, basically an outline of what my project should be. However, this conceptual unit has forced me to step outside of my comfort zone and step outside the world of inside the box thinking. In order to excel in this conceptual project I needed to erase the fact that the project only has a few guide lines or limits. This made it so I had to actually think, and it turned out that I really liked the freedom of choosing almost every aspect of my project. Fortunately I don’t think I did a half bad job with it.

Poems

Attack of the Pennies

In the poetry unit we explored all of the different types of media that can be used to enhance and display a poem, or really any audio file. I first found my fondness or poetry in the freshman year poetry unit at Los Altos High school, but the way that English, Digital Media, and Design work together to create a really fun project just can’t compare to regular english. In this unit we learned how to use pro tools, photoshop, our recording devices, and Premiere Pro. Using all of these tools made me value the range of technology we have access to here at freestyle. I also really appreciated how fun it was to use these different forms of media to create my project.

Inside Pro Tools

This is an image of the finished product for my poem audio. It shows all of the changes that I had to make to my original audio to meat the requirements of the project.

Inside Photoshop

This image shows all of the tools that you can use in Photoshop to create and alter images. I had a really fun time exploring all of the tools and the ways to use those tools in photoshop.

Photo Haiku

In English We created the actual content of this haiku poem, which was a long process of trial and error until we got a deep and insightful Haiku.

In this project I learned the value of organization of files. I ended up turning this project in very late because I had lost all of my progress due to the fact that I didn’t pay attention to where I saved it. I also learned the value of doing the practice and the practice session videos.

Elements and principles of Art

In Digital Media and in Deign we learned about the elements and principles of art. In Design we focused on re-creating these elements using examples of the 13 elements. In Digital Media we focused on explaining and finding examples of these thirteen elements.

Design Conceptual Photo

In this project I learned the difference between how you think your photo will turn out, your conceptual idea, and the actual outcome you will get. I re-shot 4 times for this project for a total of about 400 photos before I finally captured the true metaphorical value I wanted.

Alphabet Name Photo

This was one of the first photography assignments at freestyle, and so I learned the value of have a lot of pictures. My teacher always says you need about 60 photos to have 5 good ones.

Elements of art Photo Collage

In this assignment I had already learned most of this in Digital Media so I just used my current knowledge to take a bunch of pictures. One of the main focuses of this assignment was to learn the elements, but also to learn about spacing and white space required for a visually pleasing photo.

Reflection On Design

So far this year in design has not only taught me a lot about the different applications we use here at freestyle, but has also taught me many life lessons. Especially about getting your work done on time, and putting my all into every project you do. I have had a really fun time this year, and I hope to continue to learn and have fun in Design, and all of my freestyle classes.
