When we first started this project everyone kept on saying how hard it is, but how much everyone enjoys it. The global pandemic which caused distance learning definitely made this project harder, and took away from the enjoyment. However, I still learned a lot about the programs I used during this project. One program that I learned a lot about in this project was Adobe In Design. I look forward to increasing my knowledge about this program because even though I like other adobe programs like Illustrator and photoshop much more, In Design is a great way to merge projects from those other programs that I enjoy to create something really cool. This is what we did in this documentary project. I made multiple infographics and designs about my project in Illustrator, I took many photos that I improved with Photoshop, and I wrote about my topic. All 3 of these things were complied together in the program In Design to make the magazine article, which gave me a new appreciation for the ability to combine my work. While I wasn’t able to do the topic I originally intended due to distance learning, doing the documentary about my grandparents gave me a cool insight into their past.

In my Design class we started out by coming up with a topic that we thought could have a lot of visual appeal. Once we had a topic we learned how to use the speed-lights on our cameras to take good photos of our interviewees with any amount of lighting. Then right before the shelter in place order we had started to learn the basics of In Design. We did the rest of the work for this project at home. The rest of the work was manly to design the article on In Design, but we had to do other things like. We wrote a bio paragraph about ourselves and then used our knowledge of speed lights to take a portrait of ourselves for out bio page. We also had to create our graphic design elements with illustrator, a program we had previously learned much about, which was an enjoyable experience as Illustrator is really fun.

Photos

While it was hard to take pictures about my documentary subject while in shelter in place, I do have these pictures.

First Interviewee

My first Interviewee was my grandmother, Anna Teksler, and I interviewed her about her time emigrating from Ukraine in hopes of finding a safe place that she could practice Judaism.

Second Interview

My second Interview was my grandfather, Izia Teksler, and I interviewed him about his time leaving Ukraine to come to America. I also interviewed him about his time in the army.

One photograph that I used in my documentary was a old picture of my grandfather when he was a solider in the Israeli army.
