Narrative Visual Perspective in Design

In the second semester of our second year in design, we took the knowledge of our prior years to expand on our creative skills and the use of design in practical use cases. Using the Adobe suite to create digital art and renderings as well as physical and traditional artistry techniques, we applied these skills to a variety of projects.

The Product Project

Icarus Candle Co.

This project tasked us to create the branding, packaging, and brand identity of a project, as well as the packaging for two other related products. I knew I wanted to create a candle product and got inspiration from the color schemes of the Mediterranean and the story of Icarus, featured throughout the packaging.

Created

Matchbox, Candle Sticker, and Box, as well as Room Spray

Branding rooted in Mediterranean roots through Eucalyptus and olive-scented candles and a luxury aromatic experience.

Narrative Media Projects

Based on the Narrative Story we created in English and a continuation of the Narrative Storytelling Unit, we created a movie digital production media for the story, including a blood jacket and a movie poster.

Book Jacket

Color pallet and imagery based on the branding of local to San Fransisco, 1850s companies including Levi Struss and Struss Family Creamery, two companies iconic to the Bay Area setting of the Narrative Story and with branding largely un-updated since creation in the period.

Mood Board

Movie Poster

Inspired by the Victorian Age that the story takes place in and the mysterious plot of the psycho-thriller the story is based on, the movie poster attempts to communicate these themes.

Reflection

This was my favorite unit at Freestyle, not only did I enjoy the fluidity of each unit into the next, or the express nature of the projects apart of this semester, but the real-world application of these projects. Through the creative aspects and the newly acquired knowledge of how to truly develop professional-quality projects was a challenging, but rewarding part of this unit. Additionally, I struggled through a lot of creative setbacks, restarting projects and pushing to achieve the level of satisfaction I wanted the same day they were due.
