This semester in Digital Media, we focused on the physical production skills to develop 3D and digital production, continuing the Narrative worldbuilding themes from English.
Funny Images and Surreal Composition Project
This project was a skill test for seamlessly combining images. Using Adobe Photoshop, we layered images of mountains and a lion sculpture to create this surrealist composition. This was a fun challenge as it was more complex and layered than I thought before the project started and learning the process is a skill I used frequently on other projects.
Multi-Layer Composition Comparison with A.I.
This composition, created in Photoshop, explored how A.I. will play into the future of graphic design and digital editing.
I started by gathering archive images of sand, sky, birds, and the sculpture on the left.
Left- I layered and combined myself with the skills learned in the above project.
Right- Using AI and Bing’s version of an AI image generator- Copilot, I first uploaded the left image as a source and prompted to copy the style and create a similar composition.
This shows the differences between human and robot.
Multi-level Laser Wood Cut
The inspiration for this project followed the Narrative Worldbuilding Unit in English. I made the house that the protagonist lives in set in 1850s San Fransico. The Victorian house was modeled after a real house in SF constructed during the early 20th century. I sketched out the layers on paper, transferred them to a digital artboard on Adobe Illustrator, and made a file that the laser cutter could read.
