I used shadow to tell the story of a bouquet of roses’ life. I used the roses for my experimental film, but by now they were dead. The extremely bright light in the corner contrasting with the dark shadow shows the life and death. This picture tells a story through shadow by focusing on the values of the subject rather than the shape or form. At first glance you can’t tell it’s a bouquet of roses, and it looks like a combination of lights and darks.
I originally wanted to get a picture of the dead flower’s shadow on the wall. I couldn’t get the lights to produce a shadow that looked interesting, so instead I took a picture of the flowers themselves. I edited it in photoshop with a contrast of 75 to make the values pop.
