Character Concept: Hollow

This is a character concept for a character called “Hollow”. I really want to work on this character and story on my own opposed to most of my other ideas leaning more towards the idea of needing to be pitched and picked up. In that case, I think that makes it safe for me to talk about this outside of working on it.

Anyway, that first photo is what I used to get the 3d model. Having the side and front. I did change it quite a bit during the process of making the model, but this is the “standard”. I evolved him outside of this project so below you can see some of the other changes I made

Environment Modeling: Greek Temple

The first Greek Temple
The Second Greek Temple with Added Props

Our first step into 3d animation and practicing in Maya. It’s all pretty much basic shapes stuck together and distort the shape. There’s nothing else since this was our practice round, it was actually really fun and I love the surreal look that the second on comes off with.

Prop Modeling: Fire Hydrant

5 Fire Hydrants using extruding

So these are an example of another major part of 3D modeling which is extruding. Extruding makes it so you have those varying widths and holes, it’s a way to make it all one model without any problems with clipping. In addition to extruding, it also shows of smoothing and bevels (Even though it’s hard to tell).

Digital Sculpting: Skull

This was our introduction to Z Brush. It was to make a skull using a reference photo. This was actually pretty hard and make me realize that skulls are in fact really complicated and more complicated if you don’t separate them into head and jaw. None the less, I think I ended up with a nice skull. Called him Larry.

Digital Sculpting: Head Bust

So this was a Z brush sculpt of a head. I REALLY like how this turned out. I think one of my favorite aspects is how sculpted it looks. I really wanted it to look like clay, to give it some kind of texture and it for sure came through. Surprisingly enough, I didn’t use any reference anything. I didn’t really have a starting point since this was going to be the head for the character concept that I made in the beginning so I just kind of put down the things that I wanted then added things that I thought fit. One of the problems that I can see now is the top of the head could be pulled down a little bit, so it fits the skull better. It doesn’t bother me that much however.

Digital Sculpting: Game Weapon Design

The Idea for the weapon was simple, just “Techno-Bat”. It’s kind of hard to see here since it’s put in with all of these other concepts, but it’s the bat in the middle. You can probably tell that the bat part was easy, the thing that really used most of the effort is the stickers that I planned to use on the bat. You can see most of the iterations of the “Peace Sign” sticker inspired by the King Dee Dee Dee symbol from the Kirby Franchise.

You can also see some random floating heads as well as concepts of a different weapon that I make for a friend. They wanted a Vampire inspired something for their weapon so I pitched an idea for a parasol and shield with fangs on it. The idea was that maybe the parasol could chomp people on the outside, but I couldn’t really portray it well so it was discarded. Maybe I’ll pick it up later.
