“Interesting” Introduction

It’s hard to get words down on paper and at time think thoroughly. In fact, I’m having trouble coming up with the introduction right now. So the best way to combat it is by exposing yourself to all these different outlets, playing around and trying to figure out what you want and what you’re good at. That is what the Conceptual unit is all about, in english you try out and read all these forms of poetry. Digital Media is kind of an extension of that, except you try out all of these cool visual mediums: like taking and editing photos, Making videos, and managing the very website you’re reading this on.

English, especially in this conceptual unit, was great. I loved every bit of it. Learning poetry was ok, but making it and hearing other people’s poems and interpretation of my own poem was really something else. Digital media on the other hand had its ups and downs. Making videos using Adobe Premiere was really fun; Playing around with effects and making something I could be proud of really made everything worthwhile. Mixing audio however…

Hi Haiku!

The Haiku involved us reading haikus, interpreting them and throwing around ideas what made them so distinct. We used these ideas as notes (or at least I did) to find out how to make ours stand out. Using assigned emotions and experiences, we made our haiku.

I misspelled Sacrifice šŸ˜

The prompt was “I am feeling the confused through sacrifice.”

Very Cool lookin premiere stuff.

Making this video and playing around with masks and stuff was really fun. Even though I already worked with Adobe Premiere, It changed a surprising amount from the last time I used it. So it was nice to come back to it. I hope that I work more with this software again.

Pungent Poetry

Poetry. The language of the people who doesn’t and will never know what they are talking about. We walk through poems and different techniques used in poetry. In the end, we make a free verse poem with little to no restriction. Digital Media supports this with learning how to use Photoshop and the literal worst section that I hope we will ever do in Freestyle learning how to use Pro Tools. We use photos and edit them together make our audio of our poems and the photo to go with it good.

A Grotty Confessional by Aramis Duenas

Itā€™s order that keeps a man sane,
Being assured that nothing can hurt him. Itā€™s
hell, the same hallways that I see.
never being more than monotone concrete.
then a door opens, a bubbling nausea that forms in the pit of my stomach. it
Cries to be let out, to be rejected.

So I break the schedule, only for a
moment. i enter the bathroom.
scuffed walls, the floorā€™s slightly sticky.
in such a filthy environment, i canā€™t believe i find bliss. i canā€™t believe
Iā€™ve gone this low.
Kneeling over the porcelain bowl, like
a dirty prayer. i pray for change,
but I fear that i am the one who must answer.
to escape this tight grip they have on me, it

Solo Audio

Reverberates in my bones,
Regurgitating into a pile of organic mush.
It burns my orifices, the smell is nauseating.
A reminder that I am human, or
was, for a moment. as

I get up and prepare for the regime,
I take one last look at the dirty bowl.
And for a moment I almost feel something,
Disgust or maybe
pride.
pride that they know that we will never be ā€œimpureā€ or ā€œwrongā€.
that I’ll never be human again.
for it is humanity that keeps a man, a man.

Reflection

It was ok. There wasn’t really anything that stood out to me fore this project which is kinda sad, in both the Digital Media and English part. Using photoshop was nice, but other than that I really don’t have anything to add.

The Audio Part
Good ol’ Photoshop

Phunky Photoshop Blending

We learn how to edit in photoshop. That’s literally all this is.

What are your thoughts about using Photoshop Blend Modes?

The blend modes are good for fixing lighting and such (which is great), but blending two photo’s together with this is really the worst. I cannot see myself being like “hm yes i WILL make this multiply to put kyle into a boxing ring and not just use a selection tool that makes this 10000% easier and faster”. Other than that, pretty ok.

What did you value about learning Photoshop Blend Modes?

Overlay was probably one of the best parts. I don’t know if I should talk about “The Basics”, but that was probably one of the most useful things so far (even if it was long (but then again, this was even longer)) .

Any Animation

Animation is a elective that I am very happy that I took. For the most part I thought I was going to take film, but on a last minute whim I decided that I would take Animation and right on me for doing so because I could try out thing I always wondered about and grow my skills as an artist at the same time. Thought I have improved, mostly outside of class, I strive and know I can do better. I value the effort that I put into the projects we do and how it always feels satisfying when I see it through.

Zany Zoetrope

For animation, this was our first project. We made a strip, stuck it in the Zoetrope, and watched it come to life. I decided to stick with something simple so I made a seal just heading from point A to point B.

Phunny Phenakistoscope Wheel

This animation used one of my original characters doing some kind of idle animation. Of course in the end product he doesn’t really look like he’s doing that, but the door animation at least comes out semi solidly. Due to technical problems (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EOLclIZCIMM9PClHAmvTU016YqO-FbOV/view?usp=sharing) Watch GIF here.

Freaky Flipbook Animation

This flipbook was simply another original character of mine walking in place, summoning his weapon, and standing in place. I wanted to see if I could do a character animation and did it I did. It looks really nice and is probably my best project from the “conceptual” unit so don’t get your hopes up. Even now I still replay the video and see the satisfying result.

Exceedingly Exquisite Corpse

We had two shapes that we had to fill in and every bodies flipbooks would connect together in a mega animation. I never say the finished product, but I imagine it’s good since this flipbook turned out well.

Decent Direct Technique Animation

This animation was the first of a combo deal, we would play around with stop motion with paper first. We made cut outs and would make our ani9mation by moving said cut outs. The thing with mine is that I made sooooo many.

Half of these didn’t even make it to the animation

Decent Direct Technique Animation 2: The Return of the Dragonframe (Direct to DVD)

For this project it focused more on “3D” stuff. I’m going to be 100 percent honest, this was the first project that I gave a small amount of effort. It kind of shows. There is nothing to talk about here and I have no behind the scenes thing to show. Kind of ending off on a sour note, but trust me the narrative unit…
