Wanting to use visual mass to experiment with balance in a photo, I had an opportunity during our more silly section group photos during the marching band photoshoot. Pit (front ensemble) wanted to get a photo of some dramatic scene with people pretending to attack each other, having done a similar set of photos during last year’s photoshoot as well. I made sure to position my camera to space the people out with balance in mind, the person lying down in the bottom left foreground countering the person standing up on the right side of the image, the bodies being positioned in a way that forces your eyes to move throughout a curve in the image to see the full story behind the picture. I also played around with the white balance settings, deciding on a cool toned lighting to add to the dramatic nature of the scene.
