color without color

My car’s name is Edna. Isn’t she cute?

Black and white always reminds me of old films and photography. Unable to rely on color, filmmakers and photographers from the black and white era turned to lighting to convey tone and mood. I watched the film Cleo From 5 to 7 this summer. I did not particularly enjoy it, but I really like Agnes Varda (who directed it). In the film, she utilized lighting masterfully. However, what stood out to me the most was her use of reflections. The dreamy, blurred movement in windows and mirrors added a fun vibrancy to the film’s visuals.

In taking a photo for this week’s challenge, I tried to utilize those tools. I like the way the photo turned out. That teeny speck of light in Mya’s eye.
