Self portrait with a mirror reflecting a plant as a face

More than just a green thumb; a green face

(1/10 shutter speed, F8.0, ISO 800)

In this photo, I was trying to represent many of my interests. For example, my love of plants. This particular plant, a marble queen pothos, hangs above the hammock chair in my room where I spend much of my time. I also included my dad’s hat from the Westin Kāʻanapali Hotel in Maui because we have enjoyed many vacations there, and I would consider it my family’s happy place. Finally, the jade Year of the Dog pendant hanging from the mirror is something that I’ve kept from my childhood that represents my Chinese cultural identity. I also wanted to portray some emotion in this portrait without showing my face, so I angled the mirror and the hat slightly to the side, and I positioned my hand under my “chin” to give the illusion that I’m lost in thought, which I often am. This photo relates to the weekly challenge because it depicts multiple facets of my identity without showing my face.
