I’m Darius Matulich, an 11th grader at Mountain View High School, balancing my academic classes (AP Calculus AB, AP Physics, US History, Advanced Computer Science) with Freestyle Academy’s Animation program, which integrates classes in English and Digital Media. I enjoy [the combination of technical problem solving and creative production.
My core values are quality, mentoring, and imagination. I’m a perfectionist, which can make my “quality” value be both a virtue and a fault: While I may refine details until they feel right because I care about craftsmanship, my perfectionism can slow me down due to overworking a project. I value mentoring because I enjoy helping others improve. Finally, imagination fuels everything I create, whether it’s music, games, or digital art.
I’m passionate about my digital creations and wish my academic load was lighter so I’d have more time to pursue them. I feel energized by the process of building something from scratch, using my creativity and vision when layering sound, designing interactive mechanics, and shaping visuals. Creating digital works isn’t a hobby for me, it’s my future career.
I joined Freestyle Academy because I learn by engaging in projects to build something, rather than memorizing facts. Freestyle offers a structure that integrates communication skills with design and technical development.
