Exploration

Introduction

The Exploration Project tasked all students to research a topic of their choosing and improve on it. We self directed productions to best show the knowledge that we gained during this unit by creating a video to present to others.

For my Exploration Project, I decided to research the topic of water physics in animation. I chose this topic because in the previous unit, I heavily struggled to make good water animation. I used this project to help improve my visual literacy by learning how to create more realistic water animation.

The Process

To do research about my topic I watched the movie Ponyo and the first season of Avatar. Both of theses shows heavily featured water, and I also wanted to see how different studios created their water animation. I then started using the same techniques I saw on the screen and recreated them into my own animation. I created a rough anamatic of what I wanted my final product to be and called it Sea Shells. I then went through and created my final animation.

This is the anamatic I created for the project.

Final Product

This is my final exploration production of a small short called Sea Shells. This short follows a girl on a journey to collect shells on a rainy day.

Infographic

This is my final comparison infographic where I compare CGI water animation with 2D animation.
This is a picture of the Illustrator interface, which is what I used to put together my infographic. I also used procreate to create the images inside the circles.

Final Presentation

This is my final presentation where I explained the process of making my project and it features my final project at the end.

Reflection

During this unit, I really valued the opportunity of getting to find and practice a skill that we struggled with. While I thought I did pretty well with my water animations, the front walk cycle that I created turned out very badly. If I had more time I would fix it. This project helped me improve on my ability to create water animations.

Experimental Music

For this project we were tasked to create an experimental song with the knowledge that we gained from the Pro Tools and Reason Learning Projects. I partnered with Midori O for this project.

This is the interface of Reason which I used to create my song.
